WELCOME TO MALTA CITIZENSHIP

The Malta Individual Investor Programme (MIIP), is the most modern citizenship-by-investment program. The MIIP is the newest addition to the global citizenship-by-investment portfolio and offers clients the opportunity to gain Maltese, and therefore European Union (EU), citizenship.

 

Malta Residence and Visa Programme

Malta is a very attractive location for private residence. The island nation enjoys a stable political climate and is strategically located with excellent air links. The Malta Residence and Visa Programme (MRVP) offers non-Maltese persons the possibility of acquiring an EU residence card which offers visa-free travel within the Schengen area.

Investment Requirements:

  • In order to qualify, the investor must have a net worth of at least € 500,000 – and at least € 150,000 need to be in the form of financial assets.
  • The investor must also provide a clean criminal record and comprehensive medical report.
  • And – purchase a property in central Malta worth at least € 350,000
  • Or – if the property is located in Gozo or southern Malta, the investor is required to purchase a property worth at least € 300,000
  • Ownership of property must be held for a minimum of 5 years.
  • The investor also has the option to rent a property starting from € 12,000 /year if the property is in central Malta or rent a property for € 10,000 /year if the property is located in Gozo or southern Malta. Rental properties must be held for five years.

Government Contribution:

  • If the investor owns a property, they must also make a non-refundable donation to the government for the amount of 68,000 €
  • If the investor rents a property, they must make a non-refundable donation to the government for the amount of 98,000 €
  • Whether buying or leasing, all investors must pay an application fee of 7,500 € – per each adult dependent that is included in the application (other fees apply).
  • As well as making a 2,000 € contribution to a local, registered non-profit organization (NGO).
  • Obtain permanent residency in Malta, which allows for visa-free visitation to the Schengen Zone, for a period of 90 days every 180 days.
  • The residency is granted to the entire family (inclusive of children up to the age of 26 – subject to financial dependency on the main applicant).

  • Five years’ permanent residence, renewable indefinitely.
  • Investment required only for first five years.
  • No residence requirement.
  • Taxed only on Maltese source income and remitted income.
  • Obtain permanent residency in Malta, which allows for visa-free visitation to the Schengen Zone, for a period of 90 days every 180 days.
  • The residence is granted to the entire family (inclusive of children up to the age of 26 – subject to financial dependency on main applicant).

Procedures and Time Frame:

The MRVP application requirements and procedures are reasonable and straightforward. The application is submitted to Identity Malta, the government agency responsible for applications, with a non-refundable deposit of the contribution amount in the sum of EUR 5,500. After stringent due diligence checks, successful applicants will be requested to complete the qualifying investments and will then be issued a residence permit. Identity Malta will issue successful applicants with a Maltese Residence Certificate which will be deemed to be a permit. The certificate will be monitored annually for the first five years from its issue, and every five years thereafter.
